HAVE YOUR SAY IN THE SPENDING CHALLENGE FACING BRITAIN
It’s been a busy couple of months since the general election when I was re-elected as your Member of Parliament. It’s a
great honour to have been elected to represent you in Parliament, and I promise to work hard for everyone in Bexhill and
Battle no matter how they voted.
The biggest challenge facing our country – and our new Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government – is the
legacy of Labour’s debt crisis.
Labour left every man, woman and child in Britain owing £21,300.
Labour left us with the worst deficit in Europe except for Ireland.
Labour left two and a half million people out of work.
Labour left one in five young people unemployed.
We have to act to deal with this debt crisis now. If this rate of borrowing is allowed to continue, it could lead to higher
interest rates, tax rises and less money for services such as schools, hospitals and policing.
That means we have to reduce public spending to get our economy moving again. But we want to do it in a way that is fair
and responsible. Conservatives believe that we’re all in this together – that’s why we want everyone to have their say
about the Spending Challenge we face.
We’ve already started by asking Britain’s public sector workers what they think. We had over 60,000 people respond in
just a few weeks. Now, I’m contacting residents right across Bexhill and Battle to get your ideas about how we should cut
spending fairly and responsibly. Please fill in the survey in the link below and send it back by 29 August so I can feed
your ideas back to my colleagues in government.

Thank you
